The cost of tying the knot

By Nicole Hallett

THE rates for civil marriages vary from place to place.

Depending on the municipality, it can range from being free to up to €160.

This means that while many couples would have liked to marry in their town or village, they have gone to other places to reduce costs in these times of financial difficulty.

San Joan d’Alacant is one of the places where couples can marry for free, and is available throughout the week.

Other municipality town halls often have restricted times during which weddings can take place.
In San Vicente del Raspeig it costs €55 to marry after 1pm on Fridays and €120 on Saturdays.
Busot charges €100 to marry Thursdays and Fridays between 12pm and 2pm, while outside of this time slot it costs €160.

El Campello offers a whole menu of price options.

On Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays until 1pm it costs €80, after 1pm and on Saturday mornings it increases to €100, Saturday after 1pm and Sundays it increases to €150.
Some municipalities, like Mutxamel, offer the option of marrying in a park, for a surcharge.
