FORTY-FOUR Russian travel agents, mostly from Moscow, visited Mojacar in preparation for this season’s first flight from Russia to Almeria.
Tourism Councillor Emmanuel Aguero said that the town hall had gone to great efforts to ensure that the Russian visitors enjoyed their time in Mojacar. He said this should ensure that the area becomes the tourist destination of choice for this important niche in the international market.
On Sunday June 17 the agents were taken on a tour of Mojacar Pueblo, and took photos of the Corpus Christi procession. Afterwards they were welcomed at a ceremony by Mayor Rosa Maria Cano. Aguero said that the Russian travel agents had particularly liked the beauty of Mojacar Pueblo and the surrounding beaches.
Following their visit, on Saturday, the first plane-load of Russian tourists arrived from Moscow. The flight was fully-booked and was carrying 208 passengers who will stay in Almeria for 10 days. There will be flights all summer until September 19, and more than 2,100 Russian tourists are expected in total throughout the summer thanks to an agreement between Russian tour operator Natalie Tours and the Almeria tourism board.
