Silvia Penya Trio Debut

“A TASTY little swinging trio with decibels kept to a minimum.”

A comment made by a well known Spanish music critic that totally sums up the smooth entertaining jazz sounds of the Silvia Penya Trio.

Although fairly new on the scene, individually the trio have travelled the jazz circuit for many years performing with a variety of bands in venues as diversified as international jazz festivals to small cellar clubs in Valencia.

The trio is the brainwave of pianist Heio Berens who decided that too many musical evenings ended up with customers having to shout at their respective partners, just a couple of feet away across the table.

Heio approached bass man Peter Guscott and together they agreed that piano, bass and a voice was the most simplistic approach to reproducing the popular evergreen melodies in a variety of rhythms, at a pleasant listening level..

All they needed was a front line vocalist – enter Silvia Penya. A singer with a reputation for delivering smooth, swinging interpretations of the best of the songwriters including the soft melodic tones of Carlos Jobin, the incredible Brazilian songwriter/musician famous for his Latin jazz rhythms and the global hit, ‘The Girl from Ipanema.’

After some considerable rehearsal time and test gigs, the trio will be making their official debut at Restaurant 121 on Friday July 6th – guaranteed a swinging evening at decibels no louder than the tonic fizzing away in your gin.
