Fond farewell ends a Jubilee royal Gib visit

A BRITISH royal visit to Gibraltar ended yesterday (Wednesday) when the Earl and Countess of Wessex bade a fond farewell following a busy three-day visit.

Scheduled as part of the UK Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations Edward, the Queen’s youngest son, and his wife Sophie, flew in on Monday lunchtime and later that day laid a foundation stone for the Diamond Jubilee Monument overlooking the site of a new Jubilee Commonwealth Park.

On Tuesday their programme included unveiling a plaque to honour Moroccan workers in Gibraltar, a  museum visit, and a drive to the Upper Rock where they met several people involved with the Queen’s visit to Gibraltar in 1954, two year’s after her reign began.

Later the same day they opened a children’s playground and attended the Queen’s Birthday Parade followed by the Queen’s Birthday Party at the Convent.
