CLANDESTINE cockfights are being held at a Mijas Costa finca, according to animal protection association Actyma.
In a document to the regional government, Actyma identified two men as the alleged organisers. Spectators place heavy bets and minors are often present, it claimed.
Fights have been held for some time on a plot of land at the finca near La Alqueria, according to Actyma. It is not registered as a breeding centre and figures in neither Junta nor town hall records, alleged the association in a formal complaint to the regional government.
Cockfighting at unauthorised venues breaches animal protection laws as well as gaming regulations, pointed out Actyma, which urged the Junta to take legal action.
