JAVEA police responded to more than 10,000 callouts during 2011, upping their average car mileage to over 100,000 miles per patrol car.
As a result, the town hall have recently added two new utility vans and two motorcycles to its fleet to help increase its rapid response within a municipality of over 68 square kilometres.
Particular attention will be allocated to Javea’s Arenal, a popular beach area that attracts tourists of all nationalities throughout the year.
Javea Councilor John Ortola pointed out that a survey of last years police commitment to the town showed that emergency call-outs accounted for 1,152 incidents of which 34% were public safety services, 24% National Health support, 24% road accidents and 14% were associated with fires and emergency support.
The councillor also said that the new vehicles have been leased, not purchased as in the past, representing a 10% saving on costs including maintenance, insurance and repairs.
The old existing vans will be recycled for use by the town hall secretariay for local business.
