A GUARDIA CIVIL officer is amongst five people arrested in an operation against drug smuggling.
More than a tonne of hashish was seized during the operation.
Two of the other detainees are a former Guardia Civil and a former National Police officer. A Motril court has remanded four of the five detainees in prison.
Two of them were arrested in Velez de Benaudalla, in Granada, one of them a Guardia Civil sergeant who had recently been promoted and was awaiting a new destination.
Another two, including the former Guardia Civil, were arrested in the Axarquia area.
The operation ended last week with a raid during which witnesses claim a man attempted to escape.
The drugs were found in an apartment on an urbanization where most homes are empty, making it easy for the drug traffickers carry out their business without being seen.
The operation is still ongoing.
