Scandinavia comes to Almeria

ALMERIA’S first group of Swedish tourists landed last week at Almeria’s El Alquian airport.

The flights will continue each week until October, following an agreement between Serhs Tourism and the provincial Tourist Board.

There were seven Swedish journalists amongst the new arrivals, who it is hoped will have returned home eager to sell Almeria province to their fellow countrymen.

The tourists stayed in Roquetas although the group also visited places of interest throughout the province, including La Alcazaba in Almeria city.

Provincial Government President, Gabriel Amat, was confident that they would return for further visits: “Other tourists do,” he pointed out.

Last week was the first phase of collaboration with Sehrs Tourism, which also plans to bring tourists from the Netherlands and Eastern Europe.

More visitors are expected from other Scandinavian countries in 2012, together with visitors from France, Italy and Israel.

“This is the start of something big,” Amat predicted.
