ALMERIA City Hall has announced it is unable to pay the price needed to hold the Extreme Sailing Series. The Junta de Andalucia has negotiated the cost with the organizers of the event, OC Events.
The request for negotiations came from Almeria Provincial Government, which is willing to collaborate, but pointed out that the financial situation in which the local administrations find themselves makes it difficult.
The Junta de Andalucia Tourism Department got the organizers to drop the price from €588,000 to €500,000, of which €350,000 would go to OC Events.
This is approximately the amount estimated by the head of the Andalucian Sports Institute, Francisco Perez.
The Junta de Andalucia promised to pay 70 per cent of the cost, and the remaining amount would be paid by the Provincial Government and Almeria City Hall.
However, Almeria City Hall hasn’t got enough money, so either the Provincial Government pays the remaining €150,000 in whole, or there will be no Extreme Sailing Series in Almeria this year.
The Provincial Government has not yet made a decision either way.
