FIFTEEN people were arrested in five municipalities on fraud charges.
They are accused of illegally using electricity at various establishments and properties in Aspe, Novelda, Crevillente, Alicante and Lorca (Murcia).
Following investigations it was discovered that a person posing as a technician from an electricity company was offering property owners and companies a system that once installed would allow them to save on their electricity bill.
This system would manipulate the counter so it did not register the real electricity consumption.
This 39-year-old ‘technician’ was arrested in Novelda and charged with fraud and his fourteen clients were also arrested for using the system.
It has been calculated that the amount loss to the electric company through this fraud is more than €500,000.
The case is still open and further arrests could be made.
