Man confesses to Elche murder

A MAN arrested for the murder of a person found in a well at a rural property in Elche has confessed to the crime.

The 40-year-old Spaniard, Victor, told officers he killed the victim, Ernesto by hitting him over the head while he was sleeping because he believed the victim was poisoning his food, Spanish newspaper Las Provincias reported.

Victor had first met Ernesto a few weeks before in the Caritas soup kitchen and for 15 days had been staying with him at the Peña de las Aguilas country house belonging to Ernesto’s family.

The morning after the murder took place, a police patrol was passing by the house when they noticed the ‘strong smell of plastic burning’. They stopped to investigate.

Victor told them he had been living at the property for 15 days and that the owner of the property was burning plastic.

Upon entering the property to meet with the owner they saw that in the pool a mattress with its sheets and pillow which were covered in blood were being burnt.

After a search of the property, the body of the victim was found inside a four metre deep well covered with stones.
