Calpe sandcastle competition

WHEN was the last time you made a sandcastle? That bit of seaside fun that was an integral part of the annual holiday alongside, donkey rides, ice cream, Punch and Judy and a stroll along the pier to the amusement arcade.

Well according to the council governing the Marina Alta holiday resort of Calpe, now is the time to dig out those discarded buckets and spades and hop down to the Citizens Service Office to enter their Easter Sand Castle Competition.

They can’t promise any Blackpool donkeys or Mr Punch with his battered wife, but they do expect the event to be highly successful and lots of fun.

The competition is programmed to run from April 4 to 8 on the Arenal and Fossa beaches. Places are free but limited and the entry register will close on March 28th.

The Department of Tourism say there will be two separate categories, one for children and one for adults.

Both sandcastles and sand sculptures will be acceptable providing they have been formed with hand tools including buckets, spades and rakes.

Their will be four winners and each will be asked to repeat their entries on selected Calpe beach sites during the summer, as part of the Department of Tourism’s new marketing initiative. So start planning the grand design now and don’t forget that little flag on top of the castle, whatever your nationality.
