THE President of the Bajo Andarax Association of Municipalities, Eugenio Gonzalvez, complained that the Junta de Andalucia had taken so long to go ahead with the project for El Bobar sewage plant.
Gonzalvez said that although the association was pleased that the project had been assigned but complained that the work should have been completed in 2010, and at best, it will take until 2013.
The budget for the project is €8.9 million and the plant will be able to deal with 50 per cent more sewage than is currently managed.
“If it had been completed on time” Gonzalvez said, “contamination of soil and subsequent fines from the Environmental Department could have been avoided.”
He added that the association hopes that the Environmental Delegate, Sonia Rodriguez, will “grant permits to go ahead with a second drilling to improve water supply for the area as promised.”
