A SUSPECTED sex attacker, aged 24, who was arrested in Velez-Malaga is a keen football player who claimed to have rejected offers from clubs in Argentina and the UK.
The man, who allegedly began committing a string sexual assaults on young women in April last year, told friends Argentinean club Racing de Avellaneda and British side Arsenal were interested in his talents, according to Spanish daily ABC.
His ‘biography’, which is suspected to be imaginary, as his teammates say he was a mediocre player, can be found online.
However, when he missed a game none of them suspected that he had been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting six young women.
They thought he may have had some problem with his girlfriend. When they called his mother, she reportedly told them that “everything was fine”.
While the men he played football with describe him as “very friendly”, the police report he could be a sexual predator who “acted at night and chose young women whom he followed and sexually assaulted in the street or near their homes”.
He also worked as a local sports monitor and it is suspected that is where he chose his victims.
A complaint last week led the police to the man they had been searching for since April, because a man who accompanied the latest victim to the police station told the police that the description of her attacker coincided with someone he knew.
The investigation began after a woman reported she had been walking alone in a local street when she noticed that someone was following her, and minutes later, a man grabbed her by the neck from behind, pushed her to the floor and attempted to kiss her, although she managed to escape.
The other attacks were very similar.
