Two scammers arrested in Adra

TWO people were arrested in Adra for allegedly attempting to commit fraud.

They met with the victim, allegedly to buy a car, but told him that the money they had was meant to be for international aid and was marked.

However, they told the victim that they would give him a chemical substance with which to remove the marks.

A real note was used, died black and then cleaned with ascorbic acid, to ‘prove’ to the victim that the process worked.

They then told the victim that they had the money to pay him, but that it had already been died black, and asked for money in exchange.

The victim was driving a car which was stopped by Guardia Civil at a routine checkpoint while the two tricksters were with him. When they searched the car they found a case full of black paper ‘notes’ impregnated in dust and another with chemicals, tin foil, cotton, powder and packing tape.

They had told the victim that there was €6,000 worth of notes, and asked him to give them €2,000 as well as the car in exchange. Both men had criminal records.
