Hospital Interpreter Service for Velez-Malaga

THIRTY three volunteers now offer free interpreter services to foreigners at Velez Malaga Hospital.

They cover the following languages: English, German, French, Dutch, Italian and Swedish.

They are available at Velez Malaga hospital Monday to Thursday from 8:30am to 7pm and Friday from 8:30am to 2pm.

Their desk is located in the main entrance next to the information counter.

They assist patients who arrive at the Emergency Department when urgent communication is required. They systematically visit all foreign patients in the wards informing them of their presence and providing them with any assistance they may require.

When requested, they assist the doctors and staff (including Social Services) who need to communicate with the patients and their family members.

Doctors and medical staff can contact them on an internal number.

They provide patients with a card that indicates their need for an interpreter and by showing this card to a staff member, they can request assistance.

They also assist the hospital administration in making appointments by telephone to their foreign patients as well as speaking to the patients’ family members in their home countries.

In addition to this, they help patients make arrangements for medical equipment such as oxygen tanks, crutches, wheelchairs, etc.

Foreign residents or visitors can rest assured that language will not be a barrier if they require medical care.
