A DOCTOR accused of distributing child pornography over the internet has been released with charges and returned to his job at the health centre in El Ejido.
According to reports in local daily ‘Diario de Almeria’, the Colombian-born man, who is 57 and also has French nationality, was arrested by National Police accused of sharing child pornography on file exchange programmes with “trusted” contacts.
His arrest was part of an international investigation by the Online Child Exploitation Across New Zealand brigade and the FBI’s Innocent Images Task Force.
The police seized a laptop computer, four hard drives, a DVD, a camera and three pen drives with thousands of files containing “extremely cruel” child pornography.
He appeared in court and was charged with corruption of minors and prostitution, but was released and returned to his position at the health centre where he is a general practitioner.
Local residents are shocked that he has been allowed to return to work although they admit he has not yet been found guilty. However, the some say that he should not be allowed to continue seeing children.
Meanwhile, paediatricians at the health centre have also been affected after being mistaken for the accused because they have similar initials.
They claim this is causing them severe professional and psychological damage.
