Natural monuments to receive protection

THE Junta de Andalucia has named five more natural monuments in Malaga province.

The classification has been given to the Tajos del Alcazar in Alcaucin, Cueva del Gato in Benaojan, the Cuenca del Rio Turon viewpoint in El Burgo, the source of the River Genal in Igualeja and the source of the Guadalhorce (Fuente de los Cien Caños) in Villanueva del Trabuco.

As well as the monuments in Malaga, four others have received the classification in Cadiz, Cordoba, Granada and Sevilla, allowing all the areas to increase their tourism offer.

There are now 49 natural monuments in Andalucia, all of which have been evaluated by the Junta de Andalucia Environmental Department.

This gives extra protection for areas with elements such as caves, dunes, 100-year-old trees, rock formations and others.

To receive the classification it must be well-conserved, accessible to the public, recognized by citizens and has managers interested in protecting them.
