THE Mayor of Velez-Malaga awarded Golden Shields to 13 Local Police officers for their 25 years of service.
The mayor, Francisco Delgado, and the Councillor for Citizen Safety, Antonio Arrieta, also gave plaques to two officers who recently retired. The mayor said that the Local Police provide an excellent service to local residents.
“The town of Velez Malaga is proud of its police officers” he said, “because they guarantee civil rights and liberties”.
So far this year, the Local Police in Velez have been involved in 7,150 incidents, arrested 21 people, six of them for gender violence, helped in six house fires and evacuated residents, and assisted 20 people in for falls in their homes and in the street.
In the first six months of this year, there have been 59 reports of crimes against road safety and charged 32 people for criminal faults.
