Vega Baja crime spree stopped

SEVEN Moroccan nationals were arrested in Callosa de Segura linked to 81 robberies carried out in the past four months.

They are thought to have targeted empty country houses and holiday homes so they could take their time emptying them of everything of value including electricity generators.

The properties they allegedly robbed are located in the Orihuela neighbourhoods of La Matanza, La Murada, Virgen del Camino and Benferri.

The seven detainees, aged 25-30, are accused of selling the stolen items in local markets and in some case transporting them for sale in Morocco. The alleged kingpin of the gang has reportedly served time in a Spanish prison.

Police searched three properties when the arrests took place on Friday, where they recovered more than 20 wristwatches among other items.

Over the weekend around 20 people identified the recovered objects as being stolen from them, allowing police to solve 28 robberies in 48 hours.
