Youths convicted after admitting to Palma disco assault

THREE youths accepted a 10-month prison sentence for assaulting a man in a nightclub on Palma seafront. They admitted to hitting the victim over the head with a pitcher of beer in July 2009. The victim was knocked unconscious and had to be hospitalized for several weeks. At one point doctors feared that he could suffer from brain damage due to fragments of bone having penetrated the brain. The victim had struck up a conversation with a girl at the nightclub when the three young men assaulted him. A friend of the victim who leapt to his defence sustained minor injuries. Following the attack, the three youths ran off, leaving the victim in a pool of blood. They were arrested three days later and spent a week in prison. The convicted three have also agreed to pay €3,000 compensation to the victim.
