Opposition complain about Nerja Tourism Councillor is on holiday

THE opposition in Nerja have criticised that the Tourism Councillor, Bernardo Pozuelo, has been absent from plenary meetings and other events for the past month.

The governing conservative Partido Popular in the town has said that Pozuelo “took two weeks holiday after the fair, and then decided to take another two to go to the Caribbean”.

However, the socialist PSOE and left-wing Izquierda Unida parties in the opposition say that it is “not at all normal” that “with important matters being discussed” the councillor is in Cuba.

They are referring mainly to the controversy over the figure of the tourism ambassador, actor Miguel Joven, and the use of the tourism facilities, as some actors from the Verano Azul series have complained that the series should not be used to promote the town if Joven is no longer in the position.

Pozuelo is also the administrator of the Nerja Business Association and the two parties say that this position is not compatible with being a local councillor.

They complain that while the World Travel Market has been held in London with the presence of Nerja in an attempt to attract British tourists, there is no-one in the department to provide news on any developments.
