Youth who led police on dangerous chase in Mijas arrested

A YOUTH who was wanted for mowing down two Local Police officers with a stolen vehicle in Mijas has been arrested.

Staff at a petrol station on the Camino de Coin alerted the police that a vehicle had knocked a pump and then fled the scene, and minutes later they were told that the same 4×4 was blocking the road in Calle Tortola de Las Cañadas.

When they approached the vehicle, with two occupants, they fled towards the Fuengirola-Mijas road followed by several patrol cars.

Two policemen on motorbikes attempted to stop them but the driver drove into them, knocking one down and forcing the other to jump from his motorbike. Both were taken to hospital with slight injuries.

The police shot at the vehicle but the occupants continued to flee along the A-7 motorway towards La Cala de Mijas where a blockade was set up. But again the youths escaped, hitting a police car and led the officers on a chase through the streets of La Cala de Mijas, before they returned to the A-7 and continued towards Marbella. The Guardia Civil eventually managed to stop them on an industrial estate in Estepona and one of them was arrested.

However, the other, fled but was identified and detained this week.
