THE new Son Angelats municipal sports centre in Soller has more than 33 defects. Some of these defects are ‘serious’ and even ‘structurally’ related, according to municipal technicians.
It cost nearly €8 million to build and has not even been inaugurated yet. A few days ago the Town Hall decided to claim the security deposit from one of the two builders.
They hope to use this money to resolve the many defects. The warranty is €128,000, but it is not clear if they will be able to recover this as the company is in bankruptcy.
While the opposition questioned whether this amount would be sufficient, the newly governing Popular Party reproached them for not having carried out performance tests while the work was being carried out.
Structural damage includes cracks between the stairwell, on the façade and on the sports court, the roof leaks, and tiling in the bathrooms and locker rooms are damaged, say technicians.
