New health centre in La Cala del Moral closer to opening

THE new health centre in La Cala del Moral will reportedly be open before the end of this year.

The mayor of Rincon de la Victoria, Francisco Salado, announced that technical problems which were preventing the health centre from going ahead, such as the installation of electric in the building have been solved.

The Junta de Andalucia Health Delegation informed the mayor that equipment is now going to be brought to the centre, which was completed in May 2010, and staff is being chosen to work within the facilities. For the time being, staff will be brought from the current centre. The building currently used would then be handed over to the Rincon de la Victoria Association for the Disabled, Amirax, for an early care centre for minors with physical or intellectual disabilities.

The budget from the health council for this project has reportedly been approved.

The mayor complained that the former corporation “had done very little” to get the health centre open, which he stressed was essential for the town.

However, it appears that the Junta de Andalucia’s financial problems are the main cause for the delay although the Junta blames it on technical deficiencies.

The new centre will not have an emergency department, but will have increased services for paediatrics, gynaecology, dentistry and information for pregnant women, amongst others.

The downstairs area will be used by the town hall for a youth office and association premises.
