Traffic flow to improve from Plaza de Crevillent to L’Aljub roundabout

UPCOMING changes in traffic flow from Plaza de Crevillent to L’Aljub roundabout on Calle Antonio Machado in Elche will cut traffic on the roundabout by 28 per cent, experts say.

Work began this week and will continue until December 15, according to Traffic Councillor Sebastian Polo.

These changes have been made because of the many traffic jams and accidents, especially at peak times.

Friday afternoon traffic ranges between 80,000 and 90,000, according to the Town Hall.

L’Aljub roundabout absorbs traffic from Avenida de la Libertad, the N340 and other access roads.

“The roundabout is currently handling 20 per cent more traffic that in should,” said Mayor Mercedes Alonso.

Included in the road works is the asphalting, transferring of the street lighting, installing traffic lights and repainting road markings in the new direction as well as the pavement, crossings with handicap ramps, parking areas and bus stops for line one.
