El Ejido mayor says ‘no payment for Elsur’

THE Mayor of El Ejido, Francisco Gongora, has requested that the judge in charge of the Poniente corruption case prevent a payment of €81 million to Elsur.

The municipal services company, Elsur, has requested the payment, but the town hall presented an appeal to prevent a final decision being made regarding the debt until the corruption case is over, as they claim to have reports which would question the legality of the amount that they are requesting to be paid.

However, the judge rejected the appeal saying that the only reports regarding the legality of the debt Elsur claimed to be owed had appeared in the press because the town hall is not appearing in the Poniente case, although a request to do so has been made and is pending confirmation.

The mayor said that the judge’s decision was “not logical” when it was known that there are documents from the tax office which reveal that Elsur had overcharged up to €54million for different concepts from the town hall during the term of office when the alleged corruption took place under Juan Enciso.

Gongora said that he hoped the town hall would soon be able to appear in the case and provide details which he says prove huge irregularities were carried out.
