Home alone? Not for Valencia region’s pensioners

The mere idea of any pensioners living alone and forgotten, is almost Dickensian in this modern welfare society – but for a variety of reasons, it happens far more than one can imagine.

The Department of Social Welfare of the Valencia Regional government are fully aware of the problem and have announced the launch of a special programme to help ease the situation during the season of goodwill with a programme entitled, ‘Don’t be alone for Christmas.’

All guests of this Christmas goodwill party will receive a fully inclusive free holiday at a hotel for the period 23rd to 27th of December, including full medical, transportation and group insurance.

The scheme has been designed for pensioners living alone and unable to unite with family or friends due to distance or other circumstances during the holiday period.

To qualify, recipients must be over the age of 65, or suffering from disability or receiving a widow’s pension age 60 or over, have no behavioural disorders or infectious diseases.

If you or you are aware of any other person who would qualify and benefit from this programme, you should contact your local Social Services Department to check whether the scheme is available in your community.

If it is, registration is only available up to Thursday November 3rd.
