Officers open fire in high-speed car chase

A MAN, 22, was arrested in Estepona for allegedly attempting to run down two Mijas Local Police officers.

The police received a call from employees at a petrol station on the Camino de Coin, alerting them that a car had hit a petrol pump and fled the scene.

Minutes later they received another call telling them that a 4×4 vehicle was blocking Calle Tortola de Las Cañadas. When they arrived, they found it was the same vehicle from the petrol station, and that it was occupied by two youths.

Two policemen on motorbikes ordered them to stop but the youths allegedly drove into them, knocking one down and forcing the other to jump from his motorbike.

Both officers sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital. The officers shot four times at the engine of the vehicle, but the occupants headed along the A-7 motorway towards La Cala de Mijas.

The police set up a roadblock, but they escaped and hit a patrol car, fleeing at high speed through the local streets before heading towards Marbella on the A-7.

Two Guardia Civil motorcyclists stopped and arrested the driver on an Estepona industrial estate, although the other occupant escaped.
