ITV and toll charges rises approved in Mallorca

A 1.9 per cent increase in ITV charges on the island was approved by the Consell de Mallorca. Soller tunnel tolls will also be raised by 3.2 per cent.

The ITV increase went ahead with the votes of the Popular Party (PP) and the Socialist PSOE party, while the nationalist coalition PSM-IV-EXM was against this measure. In the case of the toll charges, the socialist and nationalist coalition abstained.

It was “irresponsible” of the previous government to have not implemented this rise in January, according to socialist Francina Armengol, since the Consell must now pay €150,000 to the company which runs Soller tunnel and €130,000 to the ITV.

The current government said they will negotiate with Soller tunnel’s management company to avoid further rate increases in coming years.

Also approved at the plenary session was a motion to not raise rubbish tax next year, which was backed by the socialists.
