Man sentenced for trying to kill his wife in Crevillent

A MAN, 62, was sentenced by an Alicante Court to three-years-and-six-months in prison for the attempted murder of his wife, official sources said.
Before the incident in October last year, the couple had lived in Crevillent for 38-years. Without warning or previous argument, the man tried to suffocate his wife by putting a handkerchief over her mouth and dragged her to the bathroom.
He then put a pillow over her face and squeezed her neck with his hands telling her he was going to kill her. The only reason she survived the attack is because her husband believed she was dead when she had only lost consciousness.
He called his brothers and told them what he had done and asked them to call the Guardia Civil. At the time of the incident the defendant was mentally unstable, which prompted his behaviour due, according to the ruling.
