Social Security department fines company in Berja

THE Social Security department has proposed a fine of €125,000 for a company in Berja (Almeria) where a man was hit by a digger and killed in March.
The fine, for breaking health and safety rules, is subject to the result of an ongoing criminal case and depends on the decision of the judge.
The victim, aged 44, died on the A-347 between Adra and Berja and was knocked down by a digger when he was getting out of his lorry during work at El Almendral mine.
The Junta de Andalucia informed the Ministry for Industry, because being in the mining sector, the jurisdiction was unclear. The Ministry of Public Works confirmed that the workers had access to the quarry although work was being carried out on the road, which was closed to traffic.
