THE Mayor of Moclinejo, Antonio Muñoz, said it is “not a gay village” stressing it is “open to everyone” during the presentation of the ‘Rainbow Place’ project.
Muñoz confirmed however that an agreement has been reached to build the first 50 houses of the larger 600-house ‘Rainbow Place’ residential project aimed at the Lesbian, Gay Transsexual and Bisexual market to be presented at the Expogays Gay Trade Fair in Torremolinos next week.
The proposal initially presented by the President of the Expogays trade fair, Javier Checa, was for Moclinejo to hold a referendum amongst the town’s 1,000 inhabitants in January 2012 to decide whether to paint the town pink and become the first exclusively ‘gay’ town in the world.
Muñoz said that there were no plans for a referendum, but Checa said he would attempt to convince him to do so, as well as opening a Sex Museum.
He said the houses would be built in a ‘gay’ style, and streets would carry the names of famous gay painters, actors and artists.
