THE trial of the minor charged with killing 13-year-old Maria Esther Jimenez in Arriate in January has been set for November.
The public prosecutor and the private lawyers for the girl’s family have requested eight years internment for the 17-year-old local boy. After his arrest he was sent to a centre for minors for six months, which was extended a further three months in August.
He initially refused to give a statement before the Minors Prosecutor, but the pleaded he was innocent in June, although he claimed he knew the victim. He also complained about the way he was treated after his arrest.
Another 13 people were called as witnesses, most of them were the victim’s friends and acquaintances who it was hoped could piece together a timeline of events leading to her death.
Maria Esther disappeared on January 19 and her body was found the following day in a hut near a swimming pool on the outskirts of the town.
