Almeria Provincial Government President, Gabriel Amat, defends decision for personal advisor

ALMERIA Provincial Government President, Gabriel Amat, has defended his decision to name the mayor of Almeria’s wife as his personal advisor.
Amat, who is also the mayor of Roquetas de Mar and the provincial president for the conservative Partido Popular party, named Guadalupe Hueso Salas, who is married to Almeria Mayor Luis Rogelio Rodriguez Comendador, also with the PP Party, to be the President’s Advisor for Provincial Development Matters.
She was named the day after Juan Luis Hinestrosa Mira, the former director of the now extinct Popular TV channel, was designated advisor to the Grupo Popular. Hinestrosa is on trial for slander.
Amat said that naming ‘people of confidence’ to advise presidents or deputies, is “as its name indicates, to choose people of confidence to help and collaborate with the team in power”.
He commented no further on the matter, and instead spoke of what he considers “important” which is the number of advisors in the Provincial Government, which according to the Socialist PSOE Secretary General in Almeria, Jose Luis Sanchez Terual, is 40.
Amat claims this is not true and says there are 11, as approved in the plenary meeting, and some positions have not been covered.
He added that the PSOE should “be ashamed of making false accusations” especially because when they (PSOE) took over the position there were €3 million available, and now the PP has arrived, there isn’t even €1 million, and that in any case the numbers could be compared, and “only time will tell which team defends and manages to province and keeps the promises the PSOE failed to in four years.”
