TORROX Town Hall has suspended a Local Police officer who allegedly went to Barcelona to see a football match when he was supposed to have been on duty.
Apparently he was supposed to work between 6am and 2pm on two days in January this year. However, it was discovered after he left comments on social networking sites, that he travelled to Barcelona with the local Malaga Football Supporters’ Club to watch a match between FC Barcelona and Malaga CF on January 16.
The Town Hall opened an investigation, and the events were considered proved. Therefore, he was found guilty of three serious misdemeanours, and suspended without pay for two months.
However, the Andalucia-Malaga Local Police and Firemen’s Union has said that he had legally made use of time owed to him in compensation for activities carried out in his free time.
They said the suspension is “illegal, unjustified and disproportionate” and has been issued simply because this officer is in charge of union activities within the force.
