Schizophrenic man accused of attempting to kill mother in El Ejido

ALMERIA Public Prosecutor is asking for nine and a half year in a psychiatric facility for a schizophrenic man charged with attempting to kill his 81-year-old mother in El Ejido.

The accused allegedly tied his mother to a chair, gagged her and put scissors up her nose, while telling her “you’re not going to survive tonight and I will make it look like suicide”.

He cut her hair with the scissors and an axe and kept her tied up from 9pm until 2am the following morning before sending her to her bedroom and taking her mobile phone and house keys. He later entered the room and attempted to force her to drink paint stripper and ammonia. The National Police entered the house when he was attempting to make her drink the substance after neighbours had heard the woman shouting for help.

He faces four years for retaining his mother against her will, five for attempted manslaughter and six months for threatening behaviour.

The public prosecutor will also be asking for a 300-metre restraining order for more than 10 years. The prosecution believes that although the attack was to do with his schizophrenia, his intellectual capacities were not affected at the time.
