SUPPORTERS of Jose Antonio Zamora, accused of killing three people, have started a petition.
Zamora, from Cuevas de Almanzora, killed members of the same gypsy family on July 26 after he was allegedly beaten and threatened because he had lodged a formal complaint against them.
Taking his shotgun he went to his aggressors’ home where he allegedly shot father, mother and one of their sons, giving himself up to the Guardia Civil immediately afterwards.
The petition is entitled “Petition for tougher laws against wrongdoers, total support for the Zamora Gonzalez family and a pardon for Jose Antonio. We are on your side.” What began as a local initiative grew quickly thanks to social networking sites with 850 signatures originating from the Facebook page, Support for Jose Antonio Zamora.
In Cuevas de Almanzora, the majority of residents do not regard Zamora as a criminal or an evil person. He was a victim of a non-functioning system, who found himself in a position where he had no choice but to defend himself and his family, many believe.
