A MAN was arrested in Badajoz after stabbing his ex-wife in front of their eight-year-old daughter.
The violent attack began at around 8am in her home when the detainee, aged 46, allegedly began to attack the woman, 42, with a knife. She was able to run out onto the street with her daughter, but he caught up with her and stabbed her again in the chest and leg.
Her screams alerted street sweepers working nearby who came to her rescue, hitting the man with a broom handle, taking the knife away from him and retaining him until police arrived.
She had reported her ex-husband just two weeks earlier for threats, insults and bodily harm. He was sentenced to 38 hours community service and given a 500-metre restraining order, as well as being banned from communicating with her for two years. However, three days later, he approached her and was arrested but later released.
The woman was admitted to the Infanta Cristina Hospital in Badajoz in a critical condition.
