Still chance to book a place – Consulate in the Community in Torrevieja.

THERE are still some spaces left to attend the ‘Consulate in the Community’ event which will take place on September 8 in the Centro Cultural Virgen del Carmen in Torrevieja.

This event is a unique chance to talk to staff from the Diputación (Provincial Government), local health care authorities, social services and local associations.

After a recent meeting with the British Consul, Paul Rodwell, the new Diputada of European Residents, Mercedes Alonso (pictured), has confirmed that she will be attending the event.

The Consul and Ms Alonso discussed the importance of the British community highlighting the fact that the 130,000 British nationals on the municipal register or padron in Alicante province make up 7% of the total population.

Consul Paul Rodwell added, “this is a great sign of the on-going commitment from the Diputación to work closely with the British Consulate in Alicante with on-going projects such as ConeXiones.   The Diputación plays a key role in helping the 140 or so town halls in the province, six of which have more British residents than any other nationality.”

Before the event, the Consulate and the Pension, Benefit and Healthcare team will be present at the local Iceland Supermarket in Torrevieja to meet Brits who may be unaware of the event and could really benefit from attending.

Iceland supermarket has agreed to provide refreshments during the first part of the event, the “Well-fayre”, and so it seemed to make sense to publicise the event there. Iceland supermarket manager Kenneth said, “it is a pleasure to be involved in this event and many of the Iceland customers will benefit from attending the event as well as enjoying some refreshments courtesy of us.”

The Consular team will be at Iceland Supermarket on 8th September from 11:30 am for a couple of hours. A limited number of spaces for the evening event will be reserved for people who hear about it at the supermarket and decide to sign up.
