IMAGINE this typical white-washed Andalucian village painted pink? Moclinejo will hold a referendum to decide whether to paint the town pink and become the first exclusively ‘gay’ town in the world.
The idea has been put forward by the organizer of the International Gay Trade Fair, Expogays, which will be held on the Costa del Sol in October, Javier Checa.
The mayor, Antonio Muñoz (PP), agrees with the plans, but a referendum will be held in January 2012 to find out what the town’s 1,000 inhabitants have to say.
Other plans include building 600 houses in a ‘gay’ style, and a contract has already been signed with a construction company.
Checa has also suggested an official ‘cruising’ park where homosexuals will be able to walk and have sexual encounters with no-one harassing or judging them.
The streets would carry the names of famous gay painters, actors and artists.
