TWO women were injured in what is believed to have been a case of gender violence in El Ejido.
The two women, who are sisters aged 45 and 55, were taken to the Hospital de Poniente, after they were allegedly attacked by a 64-year-old man, who was married to one of them, with an axe and a metal bar in the Tarambana district.
The emergency services were called in over initial reports that two women had been stabbed. However, when paramedics and police arrived, they found the older woman with fractures and multiple wounds, and another with wounds to the head and chest. They were both taken to Torrecardenas Hospital, although his former sister-in-law was later released.
The alleged attacker, who had broken into their home, was arrested by El Ejido Local Police but was also taken to the Hospital de Poniente where where he remains under observation.
Apparently he had spent 12 years in prison for the murder of his brother-in-law, and was released just 15 days earlier. To do so, he had engaged the services of a hired killer in 1998.
Despite this attack, there were no previous reports against him for domestic violence.
