Alicante woman admits to killing her daughter

THE Alicante woman accused of murdering her three-year-old daughter has confessed to the crime. She has been sent to the Psychiatric Prison in Foncalent by a judge for observation, assessment and treatment in the psychiatric ward.

Although the 33-year-old woman confessed to the murder, she was apparently “not aware of what she was doing,” according to her lawyer, Marcos Cascales.

The toddler died last Wednesday afternoon at a residence on Calle Jose Reus Garcia in the Los Angeles district of Alicante City. The toddler showed symptoms of asphyxiation, according to local police.

Social Services tried to take custody of the child on Thursday August 11, but were unable to do so as the mother did not open the door to her home.

On Tuesday August 16, social service workers went again, but although the mother opened the door they were unable to retrieve the child as she was not at home. Her mother said that she was with her boyfriend.

On the Wednesday the mother went to the social services office and apparently was compliant and the paperwork was drawn up, although she had not brought her daughter.

The boyfriend found the child’s body at about 8pm that same day and called emergency services.

The mother had previously lost custody of her three other children aged seven, nine and 11, according to the Justice Department. They are in foster care with other family members.
