Number crunching canine

A BLACK Labrador is becoming a star thanks to his math abilities.

Beau from Montana can add, subtract and do square roots with an 85 per cent accuracy rate, claims his owner David Madsen.

“I have had dogs all my life, but this dog is different … he is super smart,” he told the Metro newspaper. David began rewarding Beau by giving him the number of dog biscuits his barks corresponded with, in no time he was able to count to 10.

The canine can now answer questions about golf, football scores and even read sums from pieces of paper.

“Beau shows he is finished by shooting his ears up and locking them in position,” Madsen said. Beau even performs the calculations with other people when his owner is not in the room.

Labrador Retrievers is the seventh most intelligent dog breed, according to Stanley Coren, a professor of psychology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver and the author of ‘The Intelligence of Dogs’.
