Cerro de San Cristobal monument in need of urgent repairs

THE ‘Friends of the Almeria Alcazaba Association’ considers that the Cerro de San Cristobal area must undergo urgent repairs.

The walls and the whole area are in what they described as a “disastrous” and “deplorable” condition which goes unnoticed by most residents in the city.

The President of the Association, Maria Teresa Perez, clarified that they were yet to make a direct complaint regarding the walls to any of the administrations, but that the association believes they should be included in the Andalucian Defensive Architecture Plan, which lists the needs of such structures and how to preserve them.

The association considers that the Cerro de San Cristobal walls are as much in need of repairs as the towers on the Muralla de Jayran, if not more.

These towers were ‘repaired’ with metal sheets some months back, in an action which the association totally disagreed with.

However, their main preoccupation is for something to be done to restore the walls before they are lost forever.
