A NEW iPhone application called Backseat Driver lets children take the wheel on a virtual journey.
Using satellite positioning the application creates a road layout with a similar number of twists and turns chasing the ‘Papa Car’ (the real driver). Children steer their ‘car’ by tilting their phone to the left or right and earn extra points for driving well.
The Papa Car drops various objects which are linked to landmarks and shops taken from real life buildings which are driven past. Players collect these objects which are saved so the information about the locations can be viewed later. Users can share their routes via social network sites including Facebook and Twitter and compete in an on-line league table of how far they have travelled.
Backseat Driver is free to download from the iTunes store from ToyToyota.
