VELEZ-MALAGA Town hall will be sending 200 letters to associations and groups asking them to join a project to get the town named as a ‘Large Population Municipality’.
The local government wants to obtain this classification from the Junta de Andalucia before this end of this year.
The mayor, Francisco Delgado Bonilla, explained that Velez-Malaga could benefit greatly from the classification, as well as being able to create a local Social Committee, which would be made up of representatives from the local economic, social, professional and residential groups, and would plan urban projects.
He is therefore asking groups in the town to back plans to obtain this classification which is available for towns with more than 75,000 inhabitants with special economic, social, historical and cultural circumstances, and in Malaga province, is only held by Marbella.
