Gay couple assaulted after restaurant kiss

A 53-YEAR-OLD was arrested for attacking a gay couple after they kissed in a Madrid restaurant. He spent the night in a cell charged with causing bodily harm and refused to give a statement.

According to witnesses, he was with a woman, eating in the same restaurant as the couple, and threw a glass of water after seeing them kiss. The glass broke and he sustained several cuts to the hand.

He shouted at them “you have no shame, what a lack of respect that I should have to see this”. Then he threw a coffee cup at one of the men, who was given four stitches at the ER of Gregorio Marañon Hospital.

Earlier, he had allegedly said “I hate queers. I can’t stand them because I pay my taxes”, not explaining what one had to do with the other.

The 34-year-old member of the couple who reported the attack when he was in the restaurant with his boyfriend and a friend said they had not provoked the attack in any way, and claimed it was “the first time I have felt offended because of my sexual inclinations”.

He thanked the restaurant staff, who called the police, and the rest of the clients who supported the couple and closed the door so the attacker could not leave before the police arrived.
