Torremolinos Businessman on hunger strike suffers blackout

THE Torremolinos businessman who has been on hunger strike for a week suffered a blackout on Tuesday afternoon. His friends called Civil Protection who attended to him on the seafront.

Daniel Perez, who has had a municipal permit to hire pedalos on La Carihuela Beach for 23 years, went on hunger strike after the town hall denied him the permit this summer. He says he is only drinking water with sugar and the heat affects him very much, which is what caused him to faint.

He said that it is “people’s support” that keep him going, and claimed to be very pleased to have collected 3,000 signatures from businesses and residents in the area who support his cause.

Meanwhile, Torremolinos Town Hall has not responded. Perez, who has brought legal proceedings against the town hall, blames them because it was the council that reported to the Coastal Department that a law passed in 2005 which requires 400 metres between plots which are used for businesses was not being complied.
