Body of missing teen recovered in Pulpi

DIVERS recovered the body of a Malian teenager who went missing on Sunday 13th July at San Juan de los Terreros Beach in Pulpi.

The youth, 17, was on a trip with another 13 minors accompanied by two monitors from the Junta de Andalucia centre where he was living in Chirivel.

His body was found under the water just metres from where he was last seen. He was said to have playing ball in the sea with another two boys. The water was only up to his waist and there were initially no large waves.

However, when the waves became bigger, the monitors called the youths to the shore and noticed that he was missing. When he went missing, the Equality and Social Welfare Department opened an enquiry to determine the circumstances of the incident. Staff at the centre were convinced he had not run away as his behaviour was described as ‘excellent’.

The victim would have turned 18 next month, and he reportedly had plans for the future, as he had managed to save some money.

He is the second minor to die this month under the protection of the Junta de Andalucia.
